A healthy skincare routine is probably the most stubborn routine to perfect in my opinion. Besides finding the right routine that works for you there's the whole idea about keeping up with it even on those days when you just want to couch potato through the day.
No matter how tired you are, no matter how your day was or will be, it is always beneficial for your skins health that you take the time out and take measures whether its for prevention or treatment; in the end it always pays off.
I have learned the hard way that skipping makeup removal or skipping my skincare routine for more a few days makes my skin rebel in some pretty unflattering ways :( and it's in times like those that I most wish I hadn't slacked off.
For me a daily routine has both day time and night time regimes which differ very slightly, and for the majority of it, it stays the same all year round; it's worked for me for years. I start off with Dr.Bronner's Magic Soap - Rose to get off the nights or days residue. This is by far the most perfect soap I've used and it smells amazing! It's made with organic oils and potassium hydroxide which upon reacting with water creates soap and glycerin via soaponification. So what your left with is a rich lather of organic oil soap which leave your skin squeaky clean; with the added bonus of non-drying out your skin.
Once I have a fresh clean face I tend to go for a scrub just to polish away any dead skin that might have built up. The one I'm currently using is the St.Ives Pink lemon and mandarin scrub which helps even and brighten your skin. I have combination skin so I tend to use this scrub 2 or 3 times a week especially when I feel my skin is looking a little dull. The scrub smells delicious and is a mousse like consistency with fine scrubbing particles, which for me is what gives a more refined polish without being too harsh.
After the scrub I like to treat my newly polished skin with a mild acne preventative, the cetaphil gentle skin cleanser. My method of using this product is to take a pump of the product and massage it into my face for a few seconds, then let it sit for a minute before I rinse it off.
After washing away the cetaphil I pat dry my face and use my Yes to Grapefruit eye cream which is I believe says it's 99% organic, I found this cream to make all the difference with dark circles. Me coming from hereditary dark circles, found it nearly impossible to get rid of of hide my discolouration but this is one of those creams that I personally feel has made a difference. After my eye cream I like to use my Kiehl's products which I mentioned in a previous blog post (see Here!). The Midnight recovery serum is added to the same routine for a "night-time" routine, and is my liquid gold in a bottle.
The last two products are not regulars in my skincare and I tend to go for them when I have a special event coming around the corner or those days where my skin needs special attention. I tend to use these as a deep cleaning and pampering session most of the time, probably once or twice a month.
So that is what comprises my skin care routine, it is important to find what is best suited for you and know that just because I have combination skin doesn't mean that your combination skin will react the same way to these products. I personally love watching skin care routine videos on YouTube as well as reading blog posts in regards to them, and from them I have always seen that a lot of people tend to have a different day and night time routine which also tends to vary per season. Mine however, does not and it has worked wonderfully for me, and every now and then in the various seasons when my skin needs a little something extra I tend to go for a homemade skin mask or two :) As always, until next time loads of love!
